On The Hour of the Star

"The instant is that blink of time in which the tire of the speeding car touches the ground and then touches it no longer and then touches it again."
Reading The Hour of the Star is the experience of such an instant which couples motion with the surface, uncouples them till it re-couples again through a tactile encounter, hesitating between proceeding and receding. Lispector's writing outwrites the written. As Colm Tóibín says, she writes as if no one had written before her and there's no writing outside.
