Politics

The most alarming aspect of the ongoing state oppression on the Indian academic institutions is the way the attack seems to be directed at the cusp between the citizen and the subject. In both JNU and HCU, the state has made sure that the citizen-subjects are deprived of civic amenities if not rights like electricity, water, banking facilities and so on. The statist logic seems to be this: the moment you oppose us, you will be shorn of your rights as a citizen of the state. While the statist battle seems to be waged against the production of a critical and critiquing subject in the university, the state is now directly denying the fundamental rights of the opposing citizens.
