Teaching Foucault's reading of Las Meninas

"[...] in that blind point, in that essential hiding-place into which our gaze disappears from ourselves at the moment of our actual looking."
Michel Foucault's reflection on Las Meninas by Velasquez is a memorable de-ciphering of meta-representation and the structural logic of the gaze. It deconstructs the boundary between the act of seeing and that which is seen by way of an implosion of the invisible. The inside-outside distinction goes for a toss in what he anatomically calls the "sagittal dimension" of the artwork.
Happy to be able to teach this beautiful text smile emoticon
